Sorry, But We’re Staying In - The Emily Hotel Chicago

When the hotels just that you good you never want to leave, and honestly, you don’t have to.

A spontaneous trip to Chicago led us to a forever favourite hotel stay.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we love unique designs and natural elements when travelling. Of course, Chicago is a city, and lately we’ve been spending a ton of time in the city. So when we came across The Emily Hotel, we were surprised to find the city offering unique and natural elements, just in a different way. And we loved it.

The interior at The Emily was what got us. They collaborated with a local artist to create unique designs on simple things like your key card and welcome letter. You can find the artist’s work, Rasper Rivera, throughout the hotel but we loved that the simple things became pretty works of art. The room’s comfort and sleek design made us fall in love with the space so much that we barely left the hotel. Instead, we stayed in and soaked it all in. It did help that the hotel had great coffee and amazing restaurants to choose from on-site. Although it was just a 2 nights stay, and we mostly stayed in, we had the best time truly experiencing the hotel for what it was.

We loved both of the restaurants. Fora had amazing food, drinks and ambience. The Duck wings were a solid fave. Selva was great for the vibes, drinks and tacos. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, we’d recommend checking out the restaurants. It’s totally worth it.

What We Loved:

  • The interior design was so beautiful. We love it when every corner is worth photographing.

  • We loved that they collaborated with a local artist. It felt like it made the hotel and stay unique to the city and spoke of the city’s art.

  • The restaurants on-site were amazing. They were both so good and had different vibes, which brought different dynamics to the experience. Both the food and drinks were just amazing.

  • The cafe downstairs had amazing breakfast buns. Seriously, they were so good.

  • The beds were so comfortable.

  • We were just obsessed with the rooms. It didn’t feel like a basic hotel. The design felt intentional and unique.

  • The gym had Peleton bikes, which is always a winner.

  • The location was perfect. We were so close to popular hubs.

  • The little attention to detail. The in-room tea is so good and one of our favourite brands of tea. Usually, hotels give average tea, but they served the good stuff. The mini-bar is also well-stocked with great options. We appreciate when hotels don’t just serve the basics but include local items that are also more conscious.

  • The bathroom was so nice. We know, random, but it was just such a cool bathroom. The double shower and black interior was chef’s kiss. We took a mental note to create the bathroom of our future home pretty similar.

Tips / Recommendations:

  • Visit both restaurants. Fora is great for a sit-down dinner and Selva is great for the vibes whilst grabbing a drink.

  • Parking is a little tricky, so either plan in the Valet or park a little further away for free street parking. We parked about a 2-minute walk away and it was safe.

  • Try the breakfast buns from the cafe, and thank us later.
